OUR STORY

Whilst living in Kenya in 2009, Tom fell in love with luxury camping and felt that there was a huge gap in the market at his home and native county of Yorkshire for this alternative way to holiday. After researching various options, Tom discovered the huge benefits of the beautiful structures known as yurts. Light and airy in summer and warm and cosy in winter the yurts were ideal for the UK ‘Glamping market.’ Yorkshire Yurts holidays was born 2010. Due to requests from guests wanting to hire yurts for parties and weddings, in 2011 Yorkshire Yurts purchased their very first large 33ft yurt suitable for a whole host of events and special occasions. Strong demand and positive feedback has meant the business continues to evolve and over the years, whilst both the number of yurts and the team has grown. In 2012, the difference between the holiday and hire business ensued the Yorkshire Yurts holiday division became known as Yurtshire whilst Yorkshire Yurts continued to specialise in Weddings, Parties and Events.

TOM STERNE
Founder and Chief Yurt Man

Tom formally worked as a qualified Chartered Surveyor before setting up Yorkshire Yurts. A self confessed yurt lover Tom set up the business in 2010 as a ‘one man band’ and is now proud to have a great team of passionate fellow yurt lovers behind him.

SARAH-JANE WILSON
Events and Marketing Executive

Sarah-Jane joined us in June 2016 having previously gained a multitude of skills and knowledge working in the hospitality and events industries, including nearby Bolton Abbey, Rudding Park and The National Trust. She plans Yorkshire Yurts’ internal events such as our wedding fairs and Christmas parties, hosted by the famous YurtBar, as well as being on hand for any enquiries from our sister site Yurtshire.

HANNAH FORREST
Wedding and Events Sales Coordinator

Since joining the team in May 2021, Hannah oversees all weddings and events for Yorkshire Yurts. Having previously spent a decade working in the auction industry, Hannah decided it was time to swap antiques for yurts. She will help with any query, no matter how big or small, and guarantees to help you create an event to remember!

GUS RAMSAY
Operations Manager

A keen rugby player, Angus started with Yorkshire Yurts back in 2015 as a yurt and marquee rigger. He has since worked his way up to managing all operational aspects of the business. Angus is the one who manages the warehouse and the rigging team to ensure that all of our structures and furnishings are safely erected on time. He will go out of his way on site to ensure every bride, groom or client are over the moon with their finished venue.
